The tragic suicide of a 14-year-old girl at her home has left her family grappling with an indescribable level of grief and disbelief.
Charley Pointon, a resident of Bucknall in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, tragically took her own life on February 9. She was found at her family home, having hanged herself.
During the inquest into her death, which concluded with a verdict of suicide, it was revealed that she had attended school as usual on the day of her passing. Additionally, she had exchanged “unconcerning” messages with her mother while visiting a friend’s house before returning home in the evening.
In a statement that followed the coroner’s ruling, Lisa and Steve Pointon, the parents of Charley, expressed the vibrant and joyful personality their daughter possessed, with a smile that could brighten any room. They also shared that they would never be able to fully accept the devastating loss they have experienced.
Charley was found at 10.30pm, which was two and a half hours after she had returned home from a friend’s house without any worries, as revealed during the inquest.

Extra support was provided to students at the time of her unfortunate passing. In February, Assistant Principal Becky Luby praised Charley’s approach to high school, highlighting her determination and positive attitude.
Charley, a beloved and compassionate individual, was known for her willingness to lend a hand to others. She boasted an extensive network of friends, not only among her peers but throughout the entire school.
We were always entertained by her sharp sense of humor, and she earned the endearing nickname “little firecracker.” This wasn’t due to her being easily angered, but rather because she fearlessly stood up for her convictions.
Charley’s impact on us will be long-lasting, as she has managed to bring countless smiles to our faces during her time at school. We will always remember Charley for her kindness, beautiful nature, and the way she always brought a smile to our faces.

Tragically, she was pronounced dead.
The young girl was laid to rest at the Lawn Cemetery in Carmountside Chapel on March 5th. During the service, white balloons were released at her graveside to honor her memory.
Assistant coroner Duncan Ritchie, in his concluding remarks at the inquest, acknowledged that Charley Pointon was a schoolgirl who enjoyed a normal and happy life with her loving family in North Staffordshire.
