Suspect facing attempted homicide charge in addition to firing gun at deputies in Portage County

A 40-year-old resident of Wisconsin Rapids is facing additional charges in Portage County related to an incident that occurred on August 20th.

On Thursday, Clinton Mayotte’s bond was set at $500,000 in Portage County. A previous bond of $2.11 million had been set in Wood County.

According to the initial news release, his vehicle broke down near 8th Street and East Grand Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids. Investigators reported that he persistently fired shots at officers and fled the scene.

Shortly after, a drone located him on a roof in the vicinity of 9th and Grape Street. While on the roof, he continued to shoot at officers. In response, the officers fired back, apprehended him, and promptly took him to the hospital for medical attention.

Several law enforcement agencies provided assistance during the incident, including the Portage and Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand Rapids Police Department, the Nekoosa Police Department, the Stevens Point Police Department, and the Marshfield Police Department.

Mayotte faces a total of five counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide in Wood County, along with three additional charges. In Portage County, he is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, fleeing an officer, and possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.
