People are lining up to get free gasoline after Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the state will distribute 10 free gallons of gasoline to those in need following Hurricane Milton. FOX 13’s Jordan Bowen provides a report on this situation.
Governor Ron DeSantis hosted a press conference in Plant City on Saturday to provide updates on the ongoing recovery efforts in Florida following Hurricane Milton.
According to DeSantis, the repairs for almost 90% of all stop signals have been completed. Additionally, all major highways and bridges have been reopened, with the exception of the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport. Furthermore, 18 school districts, which were previously closed, are scheduled to reopen on Monday.

Florida’s Governor, DeSantis, made an exciting announcement, stating that the state will generously offer up to 10 gallons of free gas to residents in need. According to DeSantis, the state has plans to open additional gas distribution sites that will be conveniently located in Hillsborough County, closer to the heart of Tampa, as well as in another part of Pinellas County. This initiative aims to provide easier access to gas for the residents of these areas.
Governor DeSantis announced that they will open “at least one” gas distribution site in Sarasota County. The state is also open to the possibility of opening additional sites if there is a demand for it.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently escorting fuel shipments from the Port of Tampa Bay and Port Canaveral to service stations in the surrounding area. Governor DeSantis has assured that if any gas stations require generators to assist with pumping the delivered gas, the state is prepared to provide them.
In addition to releasing nearly 500,000 gallons of gasoline and 400,000 gallons of diesel directly into the supply chain for service stations before Hurricane Milton made landfall, the state has also opened gas distribution sites.
