Kelly began by discussing how she had recently come across an interesting magazine article about the rising trend of ‘gray divorce.’ This term refers to the surging rate of divorces among individuals who are 50 years old or older. She explained that when she was discussing it with Mark, he became defensive.
During Monday’s episode of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa surprised viewers by addressing the topic of divorce while on air with her husband, Mark Consuelos.
Kelly mentioned that she had come across a magazine article discussing the rising trend of ‘gray’ divorce, which refers to the surging number of divorces among individuals aged 50 and above.
Kelly playfully remarked that the article’s writing style had made her consider the idea of a ‘gray’ divorce as well. One person commented, saying, “There’s always some truth in every joke, and he appears to be nervous.”
One person expressed their thoughts on the matter, highlighting the difficulties faced by older adults going through a divorce. They found it remarkable that she was able to make light of the situation so casually.
A viewer expressed their admiration for the couple, stating, “I appreciate their connection and find them relatable.” In a spontaneous decision, they chose to elope to Las Vegas on May Day 1996 and have remained a dedicated couple ever since. Along their journey, they have joyfully welcomed three beautiful children into their lives.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have joined forces to co-host the highly popular morning talk show, LIVE with Kelly and Mark. Mark advised Mr Feelgood magazine last year that it is important to find a person with whom you can enjoy walking on the beach and discussing your future aspirations and desires.
“I never want to stop dreaming about what we could do. We’re even talking about grandchildren now, and we’re designing things with that in mind. We want to be the magnets, the favorite grandparents. We’re building a life that will attract them to us,” Mark shared enthusiastically.
Mark and Kelly’s three children, Michael (26), Lola (22), and Joaquin (20), have all reached adulthood.
Reflecting on the way he and Kelly plan for their lives going forward, Mark emphasized the importance of having those kinds of conversations that truly bring them together.
“He continued, acknowledging that he can be quite annoying while acknowledging her exceptional patience. He believes that her patience is a significant contributing factor to their relationship.”
“The word allegiance may not adequately capture the depth of our bond, but I am certain that she always supports me, and I hope she also feels my unwavering support for her.”
The American Association of Retired Persons coined the term “gray divorce” in 2004. In recent years, there has been a significant rise in divorces among individuals aged 50 and older. According to CNBC, in 2019, 36 percent of Americans who divorced were above the age of 50.
