Wisconsin tops national rankings for senior wellbeing, study finds

Wisconsin has been named the top state in the United States for senior wellbeing, according to a recent study conducted by Universal Drugstore, an international prescription referral service.

Wisconsin achieved an impressive score of 8.62 for senior wellbeing.

Wisconsin stood out as the top state due to its remarkably low poverty rate among seniors, which was a mere 3.9%, making it the lowest compared to other states.

Although not the highest, the area also had a decent number of senior living facilities, with approximately 21.52 facilities per 100,000 people.

Wisconsin and Iowa both performed well in terms of the risk of social isolation. They finished in ninth place with a score of 37 out of 100.

Health care access in the state emerged as the weakest measure, ranking 17th. Despite this, it still managed to secure a position in the top half of states.

Minnesota came in second place, following Wisconsin, with a score of 8.21. Vermont secured the third spot with a score of 8.11. On the other hand, Oklahoma ranked the lowest with a score of 0.87.

According to the study, there is significant scope for enhancing senior well-being in the United States. The study suggests that this can be attributed to various socioeconomic factors, including the accessibility of affordable medication and healthcare, a culture that prioritizes driving over walking, and an abundance of unhealthy hyper-processed food choices.

Switzerland claimed the top spot as the ultimate destination for senior living, achieving an impressive score of 8.52.
