Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz criticized former President Donald Trump’s statement about using the National Guard or U.S. military to “control the enemy from within,” calling it deeply unsettling. Walz expressed his strong disapproval, stating that it made him feel nauseous.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump expressed his desire to deploy the National Guard or U.S. military on Election Day in order to address any potential threats from within.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made this statement during a campaign event in Green Bay, Wis., on Monday evening. He was launching a bus tour that will showcase the Democratic governors of the crucial “Blue Wall” states – Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. It is worth noting that all three of these states voted for Trump in 2016 but switched to Biden in 2020.
Earlier on Monday, Walz started his day on the campaign trail in battleground Wisconsin with a visit to the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. During an event, he cautioned students about the impact of Trump’s remarks on the National Guard, emphasizing that those comments were directly related to them.
“Just so you understand, he’s talking about you specifically, not some fictional person,” Walz addressed the assembled students. “I mention this because we need to defeat him and leave him in the past.”
In his address to young voters, Walz made a direct appeal to young men, urging them to support him and Harris in the upcoming November election. This appeal comes at a time when there is a growing discussion about a perceived gender divide in this year’s election.
He specifically disagreed with the idea that Trump connects more with the voting bloc.
“We must encourage young men to participate in the voting process,” Walz emphasized. “We need their active engagement, and this is not about entertainment like WWE.”
According to the Minnesota governor, the rhetoric coming from the opposing side is not “cool” and is causing harm.
Governor Walz expressed his concern about the harmful consequences of using inflammatory language and promoting violence. He emphasized that such behavior not only hurts people but also undermines the foundations of our system. The governor also pointed out that those who engage in such rhetoric are merely indulging in empty talk, stating, “I can confidently say that I am more skilled at shooting pheasants than them.”
Trump has actively sought to win over the voting bloc by engaging in interviews with podcasters and influencers who have a significant influence on young men. This shows his deliberate efforts to connect with this demographic.
Governor Walz expressed his disinterest in hearing about the monopoly these individuals have established. He proceeded to emphasize the significance of Wisconsin in the upcoming elections, drawing a parallel to football.
“The NFC North is the place to be this year, with the Super Bowl, the Senate, and the White House all making their way through the division,” he confidently stated. As a proud fan of the Minnesota Vikings and with the Green Bay Packers hailing from Wisconsin, he guaranteed that this division would be at the center of attention.”
Tim Walz, a Nebraska native, has gained recognition for his straightforward and relatable manner of speaking. He was considered as a potential vice presidential candidate for Harris, as he could aid in attracting male voters. The Harris campaign has actively highlighted Walz’s experience as a high school football coach and his ownership of firearms in order to connect with a wider audience.
Walz joined an event over the weekend to celebrate the commencement of Minnesota’s pheasant hunting season. This event coincided with the campaign’s new efforts to attract more “hunters and anglers.”
Governor Walz paid a visit to a restaurant on the Oneida Reservation in Green Bay. During his visit, he interacted with Tribal leaders to commemorate Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
