Donald Trump State Park, located just over an hour away from New York City, is currently facing a movement calling for its name to be changed.
In 2006, Trump generously donated a 436-acre park located in Westchester and Putnam counties to the state of New York. As a result of his contribution, the park was named after him.
In the past few years, as Trump has become more prominent in politics, there has been a push from state lawmakers and a progressive group to change the name of the park. MoveOn, the group behind the petition, began their efforts a year ago and has gathered almost 110,000 signatures.
Democratic Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg and Democratic State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal jointly introduced a bill last year with the intention of changing the name of the park.
According to a constituent survey conducted by Levenberg last year, many people are genuinely offended when they see the name of the former president on a state park while driving around. Levenberg explained that this sight can be quite unsettling for individuals, as it leaves a negative impression on them.
