On October 6th, ’60 Minutes’ aired a segment featuring Kamala Harris responding to a question about Israel. However, the network chose to only broadcast a portion of her answer. Interestingly, the following day, CBS aired a shorter and different part of her response.
However, the response given by the vice president during the interview was quite lengthy. Surprisingly, this lengthy answer didn’t make it to the final version that aired on “60 Minutes” on Monday night. Instead, a shorter and more focused answer to the same question was chosen for broadcast.
During an episode of “60 Minutes” that was broadcasted on October 7th, Bill Whitaker had the opportunity to interview Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Center for American Rights, also referred to as CAR, contends that the discrepancies constitute intentional manipulation of news – a breach of FCC regulations that govern broadcasters’ responsibility to serve the public interest.
The complaint demanded that CBS release the unedited transcript of the interview in order to clarify the facts, aligning with the requests made by former President Trump and numerous others.
According to a statement from CAR president Daniel Suhr, this issue goes beyond a single interview or network.
Suhr emphasized the significance of the public’s trust in the media, especially in matters concerning national security and international relations, particularly during a highly consequential election.
He further emphasized that when broadcasters manipulate interviews and distort the truth, it directly undermines the very foundation of democracy. Suhr urged the FCC to take prompt and decisive action in order to restore public confidence in the news media.
According to a complaint obtained by Fox News Digital, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has long-standing precedent that prohibits broadcasters from intentionally falsifying or suppressing news. The complaint urges the FCC to intervene and compel CBS to release the complete transcript.
The Harris interview on “Face the Nation” sparked the beginning of the ordeal, as CBS gave viewers a glimpse of what was to come.
When asked about the impact of their work in the region, Harris replied, “Our efforts have led to significant actions taken by Israel, which were influenced by various factors, including our strong support for the necessary changes in the region.” This statement was made during Harris’ interview on “Face the Nation” with Whitaker.
The interview, which was aired by CBS the next night, presented a different response to the identical question.
“We will continue to actively pursue what is necessary to make it clear where the United States stands on the imperative of ending this war,” declared Harris.
The Harris campaign has made it clear that it did not ask for the answers to be swapped and instead directed questions to CBS.
