Democratic Laura Gillen to join Jeffries in rally on Long Island

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is set to join Democratic candidate Laura Gillen on Thursday in a rally in New York’s 4th Congressional District, just under three weeks ahead of Election Day. This information was exclusively obtained by Spectrum News NY1.

The Democratic Party has set its sights on winning back control of the U.S. House, and one of its top targets is the congressional seat in Nassau County. In the 2020 election, President Joe Biden secured a victory in this district by a significant margin of almost 15 percentage points. With this in mind, the upcoming election is crucial for Democrats as they aim to regain power.

Jeffries, who represents a district in Brooklyn, is on track to become the next House speaker if his party regains control of the chamber. New York’s support could play a significant role in Jeffries securing this position.

In the race for the 4th District, Gillen, a former Hempstead Town Supervisor, is competing to overthrow freshman Republican Congressman Anthony D’Esposito. This election is a rematch of their previous contest two years ago, which D’Esposito narrowly won by less than 4 points.

Gillen expressed her honor in a statement shared with Spectrum News NY1, stating that she is delighted to have Democratic Leader Jeffries campaigning with her in the district.

She eagerly anticipates working with him in Congress next year to bring common sense solutions back to Long Island and begin delivering results for Nassau County families.

California and New York are both states that Democrats are closely watching as they aim to overturn the Republicans’ narrow majority in the House.

In New York, there are several Republican-held seats that are considered highly competitive, particularly those in Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Syracuse area. These seats are seen as crucial battlegrounds for the Democrats.

At a recent rally in California, Jeffries passionately stressed the high stakes of the upcoming election, emphasizing that the future of everything we hold dear hangs in the balance. He urged the crowd to consider the choice before them: either propel the country forward or revert to a time of stagnation.

Several high-ranking Republicans have also made visits to New York’s 4th District.

In a recent rally in Uniondale, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump commended D’Esposito for his exceptional performance, stating that he has been doing a tremendous job.

Before Trump took the stage, D’Esposito addressed the audience, emphasizing that the district is a prime target for the Democratic Party. He expressed his concerns about the party’s intentions, describing them as “dangerous.” D’Esposito also made it clear that he supports a secure border and stands behind law enforcement.
