FCC complaint filed against CBS over edited 60 Minutes Harris interview, calling for restoration of public confidence

The Center for American Rights has accused CBS News of engaging in “significant and intentional news distortion.” This accusation stems from the network’s editing of its Vice President Kamala Harris interview on 60 Minutes.

CAR President Daniel Suhr expressed concern over the recent interview and its impact on the public’s trust in the media. In light of the critical issues of national security and international relations during a pivotal election, Suhr emphasized the need for swift action from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Manipulating interviews and distorting reality not only erodes democracy but also undermines the credibility of the news media. It is imperative that the FCC takes steps to restore public confidence in the media.

The legal watchdog group has responded to the recent revelations about CBS editing parts of its 60 Minutes interview with Harris. In the interview, Harris was asked about the influence of the U.S. on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions in the war in Gaza. CBS aired two different versions of Harris’ response to this question.

During an interview on 60 Minutes that aired on October 7th, Harris expressed her determination to continue advocating for the United States to take a clear stance on the necessity of ending the war. She stated, “We are not going to halt our efforts in pursuing what is required for the United States to make its position known.”

In response to CAR’s decision to file a complaint against CBS on Thursday, Trump restated his belief that the network should have its broadcasting license revoked.
