Former President Donald Trump offered his solution to the country’s economic recovery with his famous slogan, “drill, baby, drill.”
Less than three weeks shy of Election Day, President Trump made a visit to the Bronx neighborhood of New York City on Thursday to rally support. This visit marks his latest effort to secure votes in a traditionally blue district, following a previous rally earlier this year.
A man in a Bronx-based barbershop directly addressed Trump, reminiscing about his time as president. He confidently stated, “During your presidency, I personally experienced three significant outcomes: I was able to generate wealth, save money, and freely spend it. Now, I’m curious to know, how can we revive the economy?”
“It all started with the oil. They messed with what I achieved in the oil industry. We had complete energy independence. Remember just a few years ago, gas was priced at $1.87 per gallon,”
Trump recalled. “But now, we are facing inflation and soaring costs that haven’t decreased. We have two solutions: we will lower interest rates rapidly, and more importantly, we will prioritize drilling to boost our energy production.”
New York has not chosen Trump as its president in either the 2020 or the 2016 election. The last Republican candidate elected by the state was Ronald Reagan in 1984.
New York supported Reagan for both of his terms. Interestingly, Reagan even visited the Bronx during his campaign, where he delivered a speech at the National Urban League Conference.
In a historic moment, the Bronx has made a significant political shift by electing its first Republican city council member in five decades. Adding to this milestone, Kristy Marmorato has become the first-ever female Republican member to be elected.
