Church Brothers, LLC has voluntarily recalled 1,271 cases of green onions in several states due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The affected products were sold under different brand names in retail and foodservice outlets across the United States and Canada.
The states affected by the recall include Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Salmonella, a bacterium, has the potential to cause severe illness, especially in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Typical symptoms of infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of illness associated with this particular contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency uncovered the issue during routine testing.
