Trump emphasizes the importance of US energy independence for economic recovery

Former President Donald Trump justified his “drill, baby, drill” slogan by presenting it as his remedy for the nation’s economic revival.

During his presidency, a man in a Bronx-based barbershop asked Trump, “When you were president, I know for a fact I was able to do three things: I was able to see money, save money, spend money. How can we revive the economy?”

“It all started with the oil. They messed around with what I did with oil. Remember back four, five years ago, when gas was only $1.87 per gallon?”

Trump said. “Now we’re dealing with inflation and skyrocketing costs that just won’t go down. But we have a plan. First, we’re going to bring down interest rates and do it quickly. And second, we’re going to focus on drilling. Yes, it’s time to drill, baby, drill.”

New York has not chosen Trump as its president in either the 2020 or the 2016 election. The last time New York elected a Republican candidate for the presidency was in 1984 when Ronald Reagan secured victory.

New Yorkers voted for Reagan for both of his terms. Interestingly, Reagan even made a campaign stop in the Bronx before his first win, where he spoke at the National Urban League Conference.

In a historic turn of events, the Bronx has recently witnessed the election of its first Republican city council member in half a century. Adding to this milestone, Kristy Marmorato has made history as the first-ever female Republican member to be elected.
