Trump aims to leverage Cheney’s appearance with Harris to secure support from Arab American voters

Former President Trump took aim at Vice President Harris and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Monday, ahead of their upcoming joint appearances in battleground states. In an attempt to garner support from Arab Americans, Trump portrayed Cheney as a proponent of war.

Harris and Cheney are set to engage in town hall events in the suburban counties of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania on Monday. These events aim to attract both suburban voters and Republicans who are hesitant about endorsing Trump for a second term.

Winning over swaths of the Arab American population has proven to be a challenging task for Democrats, especially in light of concerns surrounding the Biden administration’s approach to the Israel-Hamas war.

Arab Americans were initially outraged with President Biden during his reelection campaign due to their dissatisfaction with his handling of the war and his support for Israel, especially during the time when Israeli forces were responsible for the deaths of numerous Palestinians in Gaza.

This frustration has now extended to Vice President Harris, who has taken over as the nominee, as she has not clearly outlined any specific policy changes she would implement regarding U.S. support for Israel. Instead, she has emphasized the importance of achieving a peace agreement.

During a campaign trip to Michigan, a crucial battleground state with a significant Arab American population, Harris recently took the time to meet with Arab American leaders.

The purpose of the meeting was to attentively listen to their concerns about the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. It is noteworthy that Trump and Harris are currently in a tight race in Michigan, a state that traditionally leans towards Democratic nominees but was won by Trump in 2016, as indicated by several polls.

Trump has repeatedly stated that the Israel-Hamas conflict would not have erupted under his administration, but he has provided little detail on how he would have managed the situation differently from the Biden administration.

Earlier this month, Trump faced criticism for asserting that he had visited Gaza and implying that with proper reconstruction, the territory could rival Monaco in terms of prosperity.
