During an episode of “The Weekend,” panelist Sanders Townsend questioned Nancy Pelosi’s strategic abilities by asking, “Where is your calculator now?” Despite Pelosi’s reputation as a skilled and strategic speaker emerita, Townsend pointed out that her current actions seem to contradict her past successes in Congress.
In the comments on Saturday, she mentioned that she actively participated in presidential politics during this cycle and played a significant role in orchestrating the highly-publicized downfall of the president.
Pelosi’s comments were in response to recent remarks made by Biden, where he announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race and endorse Kamala Harris.
During a recent interview on a New York Times podcast, Pelosi expressed her belief that there was an initial expectation for Biden to drop out of the race earlier. This would have allowed for a more competitive process in selecting his replacement, potentially leading to a stronger Democratic response to Trump.
According to Pelosi, it was expected that if the president were to resign, there would be an open primary. She believes that Kamala would have performed well and gained strength if that had been the case. However, since the president endorsed Kamala Harris right away, it became nearly impossible to have a primary at that time.
In July, Biden made the decision to withdraw from the campaign and showed his support for Harris. This came after a rising number of Democrats expressed doubts about his ability to challenge Trump, particularly due to his poor performance in a debate and concerns about his age.
According to a House Democrat who spoke to NBC News, the recent surge of party members expressing their concerns about Biden’s campaign was attributed to Nancy’s influence.
After their defeat to Trump, the Democrats have been involved in a public discussion and criticism over who bears the responsibility.
