Following her concession speech, Vice President Kamala Harris has announced a recount initiative for the votes in the recent 2024 presidential election. It is noteworthy that former President Donald Trump emerged victorious in all seven battleground states.
Harris has updated her fundraising page for the Harris Victory Fund, a collaborative initiative with the Democratic National Committee and state Democratic parties. Interestingly, a portion of the donations received will now be allocated to support the ongoing recount efforts.
The 2024 election concluded with a tight win for Trump, as he secured 312 electoral votes. Trump managed to clinch victory in states like Wisconsin and Michigan, outperforming Harris by a slim margin. In Wisconsin, he secured less than one percentage point advantage, while in Michigan, the margin was just under two points.
Harris has decided to recount votes in critical states due to the razor-thin results.
According to the website of the Harris Victory Fund, individuals or PACs have donated an initial amount of $41,300 or $15,000 to support the Democratic National Committee.
After that, the Harris campaign’s recount fund will receive a directed amount of up to $3,300 or $5,000 per person or PAC.
The fundraising page has not yet provided details on the timeline or method for conducting the recount. However, the overwhelming support for this endeavor is evident.
Harris conceded the election the day after Election Day with a speech at Howard University. However, she hinted at her ongoing dedication to advocating for voter rights and integrity.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign ,” Harris said. “We will continue to wage this fight in the voting booth, in the courts , and in the public square.”
The Harris campaign has not given any additional information regarding the person in charge of leading the recount effort or the specific timeline for it.
Supporters and advocates view this as a significant stride towards ensuring transparency in elections, particularly in states where the competition is fierce.
