Bank of America and Wells Fargo Close for Veterans Day: Here’s What You Need to Know

Today, many Americans may find it difficult to access their local bank branches, as several of the country’s largest banks are closing in observance of Veterans Day, a federal holiday held every November 11.

Among the banks closing their doors are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, and TD Bank. This annual closure honors Veterans Day, which commemorates the service and sacrifice of military veterans across the United States.

While in-person banking services may not be available, customers can still withdraw cash from ATMs and access online banking through mobile apps.

However, it’s worth noting that certain transactions made today may experience delays in processing. Non-essential federal government offices are also closed for the holiday, although FedEx and UPS continue regular operations.

Many retailers are also open for business on Veterans Day. For those planning to shop, major chains like Target, Walmart, and Costco remain open, though it’s always wise to check with individual stores for any modified hours. The next major retail holiday closure will occur on Thanksgiving, when a number of stores nationwide will close for the day.

Veterans Day holds deep historical significance, as it marks the end of World War I, with the holiday first designated by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Congress officially recognized it as a federal holiday in 1926, and it has since been celebrated annually to honor veterans’ contributions to the nation.

This year, Veterans Day falls on a Monday, giving many Americans a three-day weekend to remember and honor those who have served in the military.

As a gesture of appreciation, many businesses are offering special deals for veterans today. For example, Publix is providing a 10% discount on all groceries for veterans and active military members, while Starbucks is offering free coffee to veterans, active service members, and military spouses. Target is also extending a 10% discount to military members and their families as part of its Veterans Day promotions.

Here is a list of major banks closed today in observance of Veterans Day:

  • Bank of America
  • Wells Fargo
  • Capital One
  • Citibank
  • JPMorgan Chase
  • TD Bank

This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces, and with banks closed, it’s also an opportunity to pause, reflect, and show appreciation for their service
