Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Coma, Son Mojtaba Reportedly Named Successor

According to Israeli media outlet Ynet News, citing Iran International, the decision was made during a secret meeting of Iran’s Assembly of Experts on September 26, 2024.

The assembly, which comprises 60 members, allegedly faced intense pressure during the meeting, with Khamenei’s representatives issuing threats to secure unanimous approval for Mojtaba’s succession.

Mojtaba Khamenei, 60, has gained significant influence within the regime over recent years, despite rarely appearing in public.

He is believed to have played a key role in suppressing the 2009 post-election protests and was granted the title of ayatollah in 2021, fulfilling a constitutional requirement to succeed his father as Supreme Leader.

Sources suggest that the decision to name Mojtaba as successor was kept secret to avoid backlash, with strict warnings issued against leaks.

The news of Khamenei’s alleged coma follows earlier reports of his declining health.

While rumors about his condition have circulated for months, including an October report from The New York Times suggesting he is “seriously ill,” Iranian authorities have yet to confirm the claims publicly.

As these developments unfold, the Iranian regime appears focused on ensuring a smooth transition of power amidst growing internal and external pressures.
