Wisconsin to Receive Over $101 Million in Energy Assistance for Winter
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced today that Wisconsin will receive more than $101 million to help lower home energy costs for families this winter. The funding is part of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), made possible through federal government legislation and additional support from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, both of which Baldwin supported.
“As winter approaches and temperatures begin to drop, no family should have to choose between heating their home and buying food,” said Senator Baldwin. “This funding will make a real difference for working families across Wisconsin by helping reduce energy bills and ensuring homes remain warm and safe throughout the season.”
LIHEAP is a federally funded program designed to assist households with their energy costs, offering payments for gas, electric, and other heating methods. The program also helps with energy crisis assistance and provides funding for weatherization projects that improve energy efficiency. During extreme weather events, the program can be used to address energy emergencies.
Wisconsinites seeking assistance can apply through the LIHEAP website at energyhelp.us or call the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) hotline at 1-866-674-6327. An eligibility tool is also available for households to determine if they qualify for assistance.
