Health Expert Max Lugavere Supports Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as HHS Head, Calls for Bold Health Reforms
Max Lugavere, a health and science journalist, bestselling author, and director of the documentary Empty Little Boxes, expressed strong support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the new head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), calling him one of the most qualified candidates for the role.
In an interview with Brian Kilmeade, Lugavere praised Kennedy’s background as an environmental lawyer, emphasizing that America’s health crises are deeply linked to environmental issues, particularly the food environment and exposure to toxic chemicals.
Lugavere argued that the U.S. needs a bold, aggressive approach to health reforms, particularly when it comes to addressing the prevalence of ultra-processed foods in the American diet.
He pointed out that 73% of items found in typical grocery stores are ultra-processed, which are now being recognized as a major driver of the country’s epidemic of non-communicable diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and neurodegenerative conditions.
He also highlighted the growing obesity crisis, noting that nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population is overweight or obese, and alarming trends, such as adult-onset diabetes in children.
According to Lugavere, these issues are not only contributing to physical health problems but are also fueling the rise of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. He suggested that the increase in these conditions is closely linked to the obesity epidemic and its effects on metabolic health.
Lugavere also pointed to a troubling statistic that 90% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy in some way, which he attributed to a combination of poor diet, sedentary lifestyles, and environmental factors. He stressed that genetics alone do not explain the growing prevalence of these health issues, but rather a complex interplay of diet, lifestyle, and environmental exposures.
