Capitol Hill Restroom Access for Transgender Women Under Fire in New GOP Proposal

Rep. Nancy Mace to Introduce Resolution Banning Transgender Women from Using Women’s Restrooms at U.S. Capitol

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is set to introduce a resolution aiming to prohibit transgender women from using women’s restrooms at the U.S. Capitol. The resolution, which is expected to be filed on Monday, seeks to ensure that members, officers, and employees of the House of Representatives are restricted to using single-sex facilities corresponding to their biological sex.

Mace, who has been vocal on issues regarding women’s rights, emphasized the importance of the measure in an interview with Fox News Digital. “The sanctity of protecting women and standing up against the Left’s systematic erasure of biological women starts here in the nation’s Capitol,” she said.

This move comes just ahead of the anticipated arrival of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., the first openly transgender lawmaker to join Congress in January. Mace’s resolution underscores the broader national debate over transgender rights, particularly in public spaces.

The proposed legislation would assign enforcement duties to the House sergeant at arms and reflects the shifting priorities that House Republicans could pursue once they hold control over both chambers of Congress next year. This bill is part of a wider Republican push on transgender issues that gained traction during the recent election cycle. Republicans have frequently criticized Democrats over matters such as the participation of transgender youth in school sports and the use of federal funds for transgender healthcare.

Mace has also introduced previous legislation aimed at deporting illegal immigrants with histories of sex crimes or violence against women, a bill that passed with broad bipartisan support, including 51 Democratic votes alongside unanimous support from House Republicans.
