Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) asserts that Democratic lawmakers who oppose the future administration’s deportation plans will face electoral setbacks, as they are contradicting the desires of the majority of voters.
President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to declare a national emergency in order to conduct large-scale deportations of illegal immigrants, utilizing the military.
This statement has been met with opposition from various Democratic governors and mayors, including Govs. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. However, the Texas governor has strongly criticized these deportations.
“They are reinforcing the reasons for their defeat in the election,” stated Abbott during an interview on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. He emphasized that the American people sought secure communities and an end to illegal immigration, particularly from individuals who pose significant risks.
Abbott warned that states like Arizona and Massachusetts, among others, that refuse to cooperate with ICE, the border czar, and any initiatives to remove dangerous criminals, will experience an increase in crime rates and electoral losses. He pointed out that the American public is frustrated and outraged by these circumstances.”
During his appearance, Abbott also mentioned how Texas is working together with the incoming Trump administration to enhance deportations and strengthen border security.
As part of these efforts, Texas has allocated 1,400 acres of land to support these initiatives. Abbott highlighted that additional water buoy barriers are being installed in the area to discourage illegal border crossings.
Furthermore, Texas is leveraging its state law enforcement to apprehend illegal immigrant criminals, including members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The Trump campaign has made a commitment to give priority to deporting criminals, such as murderers and terrorists, as part of its border security plans.
Lara Trump, Co-Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, argues that the Democrats’ failure to address the border crisis was the primary reason for their electoral defeat. She believes that the election results signify a “breakup” between voters and the Democratic Party.
Earlier this week, Tom Homan, the incoming “border czar” for the Trump administration, emphasized the importance of locating the 300,000 children who went missing during the border crisis.
Homan claimed that the Biden administration had released “half a million children” to unvetted sponsors, and out of that number, 300,000 cannot be accounted for.
Homan, like Abbott, has criticized Democratic lawmakers who intend to oppose the deportation plans of the Trump administration, urging them to “step aside.”
