Planned Parenthood engages in stomach-churning negotiations through emails, discussing the terms of donating aborted fetuses for medical research.
In the emails, fetal tissue is discussed in a manner that treats it like any other commodity, such as sugar or rice. The negotiations for fetuses up to 23 weeks old from elective abortions are conducted nonchalantly.
In 2018, scientists submitted a heavily-redacted “Research Plan” to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Institutional Review Board. This plan, which was approved, outlined their intention to conduct experimentation on 2,500 fetuses, ranging up to nearly the sixth month of gestation.
The plan states that tissues will be collected from fetuses at various gestational ages, ranging from 4 to 23 weeks. These tissues will be obtained from subjects who are undergoing elective surgical pregnancy termination at Planned Parenthood in San Diego.
While it is against the law to sell fetal tissue, the act of donating it is not illegal. The agreement between UCSD and Planned Parenthood seems to permit Planned Parenthood to maintain “intellectual property rights” over the fetal tissue. However, it does not give UCSD the authority to commercially exploit the tissue.
The researchers took the fetuses to the Perinatal Repository at UCSD for further study. The controversial pro-life activist David Daleiden and his organization, the Center for Medical Progress, shared the emails with The Post. They were obtained through a California state public records request.
With modern medical care, most healthy infants born at 23 weeks can survive. Abortion and the economy are the key issues in the race for the Michigan 8th congressional district.
In April 2021, Alabama welcomed its youngest surviving premature baby, Curtis Means, who was born at just 21 weeks and two days.
Daleiden informed The Post that the documents reveal that Planned Parenthood is providing the University of California with healthy babies from late-term abortions for their revenue-generating experiments.
“It is truly shocking and extremely clarifying for the conversation on abortion our country is currently having to see the explicit documentation of late-term abortions on healthy babies and healthy mothers. After months of pro-abortion forces and media gaslighting the public, denying the existence of such procedures, these records from a government-funded body shed light on the reality.”
The Post is unable to verify if any of the fetuses provided to UCSD were in good health or capable of surviving outside the womb prior to the abortions.
Daleiden also asserts that Planned Parenthood engages in racist practices, pointing to the consent forms provided to pregnant women regarding the donation of pregnancy tissue resulting from abortions.
The English language consent forms consist of 15 bullet points, which include a disclosure that the donated tissue may hold “significant commercial value.” In contrast, the Spanish language consent forms only contain 14 bullet points. The Post has examined both versions of the forms.
Daleiden expressed his confusion regarding why Planned Parenthood and UCSD believed that Spanish-speaking mothers should be kept in the dark about the commercialization of aborted fetal body parts, while English-speaking mothers were deemed deserving of this information.
“The persistence of this glaring discrepancy for a span of four years can only be attributed to blatant institutional racism.”
The Post reached out to UCSD for comment, but they did not respond.
The contract, which was created in exchange for valuable consideration, allows UCSD to obtain fetal and placental tissue from Planned Parenthood San Diego.
Both parties have agreed that Planned Parenthood San Diego will maintain ownership of the material, including any patents, patent applications, and other intellectual property rights related to the material.
Researchers at Planned Parenthood have requested additional heart samples, including those from fetuses aged 15 weeks and later. In an email obtained by The Post, they stated that they already have 27 heart samples but are looking for more.
According to a clinician from UCSD, hearts should be relatively easy to collect, and this sentiment is shared by the writer. The Post’s email to Planned Parenthood’s national office went unanswered, as did the email sent to the Center for Reproductive Rights, a pro-abortion organization.
Daleiden has been under investigation by the California State Attorney General’s office since 2015. The investigation was initiated when then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris targeted him, reportedly upon the request of Planned Parenthood.
In July 2015, he made public undercover videos featuring their executives discussing fees and prices related to the transfer of fetal tissues. Planned Parenthood has refuted the claim that these videos provide evidence of illegal behavior, asserting that they instead demonstrate the legal and not-for-profit donation of fetal tissue to research organizations.
Planned Parenthood’s spokesman, Eric Ferrero, emphasized that they assist patients who express interest in donating tissue for scientific research at their health centers.
He emphasized that they follow the same protocols as other reputable healthcare providers, ensuring that patient consent is obtained fully and appropriately and that all ethical and legal standards are upheld.
He stated that in certain cases, they reimburse the actual costs, including the transportation expenses for sending the tissue to renowned research centers. This practice is consistent with the standard procedure in the medical field.
David Daleiden is currently facing eight felony charges in California for his involvement in making undercover videos of Planned Parenthood. He also faces charges for allegedly “manufacturing” a fake driver’s license to gain access to Planned Parenthood offices in Houston. A trial date has been tentatively set for next month in San Francisco Superior Court, and Daleiden has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Daleiden and his fellow activists remain undeterred by the legal challenges they face as they continue their efforts to uncover what they believe to be unlawful activities involving the harvesting of fetal tissue.
According to Daleiden, there is a recurring pattern of large late-term abortion clinics partnering with taxpayer-funded research universities across the country. In March, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) urged for a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood after being influenced by Daleiden’s work.
Transferring aborted human fetal tissue for financial gain across state lines is a serious offense under federal law. Those found guilty of this crime can face imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to $500,000.
However, it is important to note that reasonable payments related to the transportation, implantation, processing, preservation, quality control, or storage of fetal tissue are not considered as valuable consideration under the law.
