Former Immigrations and Customs Enforcement chief, Tom Homan, issued a stern warning on Newsmax to blue states and cities regarding President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans. Homan asserted that there would be consequences for those who obstructed these efforts, emphasizing the potential for retribution.
“I’ll tell you something: They don’t have to assist us, but they must step aside because we’re making our way and we’re determined to accomplish it,” declared Homan.
“That means if I have to deploy double the resources into a sanctuary city, double the number of agents, that’s precisely what I’ll do. And I’ve been emphasizing for the past few days, they ought to familiarize themselves with the law.
They may not offer aid, but they shouldn’t hinder us, and they shouldn’t overstep certain boundaries.”
According to the speaker, there is a specific statute in Title 8 of the United States Code 1324 that addresses the act of harboring or concealing an illegal alien.
He emphasizes the importance of understanding and familiarizing oneself with this statute, as knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien from ICE can lead to serious consequences. It is crucial for individuals to be aware of the legal boundaries and potential repercussions associated with this offense.
The concept of a “sanctuary city” is not formally defined in American law, but it typically refers to jurisdictions that discourage the use of local law enforcement resources for cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
The laws that Homan is warning against do not impede federal officials or “harbor” fugitive immigrants. Instead, these laws prevent the federal government from using their own police for immigration missions, a right that has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Homan caused a lot of anger before the election when he proposed the idea that Trump could deport entire families of immigrants “together,” even if some of them were U.S. citizens by birth. However, just recently, he laughed off the notion that the U.S. government would actually deport its own citizens, even though he seemed to suggest that possibility earlier.
