Italy offers $1 homes to disheartened Americans dissatisfied with US election outcome

The outcome of the recent US election has prompted certain Americans to consider moving elsewhere. A charming village on the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia has come up with a unique solution by offering $1 homes to those who are ready to take the leap.

After years of decline in Ollolai and other rural areas of Italy, the local authorities have taken a unique initiative to revitalize the community. They have started selling rundown houses at incredibly low prices in an effort to entice expats to settle in the region.

Over the past century, the population of Ollolai has dwindled from 2,250 to 1,300 as individuals have departed the region in search of better economic opportunities.

A website called liveinollolai.com has been created to encourage Americans to relocate to Ollolai after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the recent election.

“Feeling exhausted by global politics? Craving a more harmonious lifestyle that opens up fresh possibilities? It’s about time you begin crafting your European getaway in the captivating haven of Sardinia.”

But why does the village specifically want Americans to become part of their community?

Mayor Francesco Columbu emphasized in an interview with CNN that their primary focus is on Americans.

“We cannot, of course, impose a ban on individuals from other countries applying, but we will be implementing a fast-track procedure for Americans. We have high hopes that they will play a crucial role in reviving the village, as they are our winning card.”

According to the mayor, the creation of the website was deemed necessary following the conclusion of the US election.

He mentioned to the same publication that while he couldn’t specifically mention the name of the recently elected US president, it was clear that many Americans wanted to distance themselves from him and leave the country.

“Our website has been designed specifically to cater to the relocation needs of individuals after the US elections. Last year, we introduced the first edition of our digital nomad scheme exclusively for Americans.”

Curious to learn more? Well, if you’re looking to switch up your surroundings, there are three levels of accommodation to choose from.

Digital nomads have the option of staying in free temporary homes or investing in €1 homes that need renovations. For those seeking immediate occupancy, there are also ready-to-move-in houses available for up to €100,000 ($105,000).

Columbu shared the details of a dedicated team he has established to guide prospective buyers.

Our team will offer exclusive tours of the properties you’re interested in, assist with finding contractors and builders, and handle all the necessary paperwork. We’ll be there to guide you through every stage of the purchasing process.
