Border Patrol agents are likely the most thrilled federal employees to hear the news of President Donald Trump’s re-election earlier this month.
During the four years when Joe Biden was in charge, morale had plummeted among their ranks as an estimated 11 million migrants entered the porous US Border illegally.
However, come January 20th, their instructions will change. This is a welcomed update for Border Patrol agents, as expressed by Paul Perez, the president of the National Border Patrol Council.
Perez recently appeared on the WOR Morning Show, where he highlighted the sense of relief and excitement that many agents are experiencing.
During an interview with Larry Mendte, Perez expressed his surprise at the number of Border Patrol agents who have expressed a desire to reverse their decision to retire early. He personally knows many agents who have requested to come out of retirement, and others who had planned to retire if Kamala Harris had won the election.
These agents felt that they couldn’t afford to work under an administration that wouldn’t support them in carrying out their sworn duties. Perez believes that with President Trump and his administration, the Border Patrol will receive the necessary support.
He also praised Tom Homan, who has over 30 years of experience in this field, emphasizing that he is not just a desk-bound official giving orders.
According to Perez, the Border Patrol has experienced a significant shift in support from President Trump to President Biden. He claims that since Biden took office, he has dismantled the border security policies put in place by Trump.
Perez also highlights that the Biden administration has failed to apologize for the false claims made against the agents on horseback, who were accused of whipping Haitian migrants.
This continuous lack of support and acknowledgment from the current administration has been disheartening for the Border Patrol, taking them from a position of optimism to one of disappointment. They are still waiting for an apology that has yet to come.
