Massachusetts authorities arrest Brazilian individuals for immigration violations

The new Trump border czar responds to state and local officials who may try to hinder the new administration’s initiatives to deport undocumented immigrants and strengthen border security.

Federal authorities in a Massachusetts sanctuary city near Boston have arrested a Brazilian citizen who is living in the United States illegally. This individual is also wanted in his home country for drug trafficking.

On Tuesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended an unidentified suspect in Somerville. This news comes as the city prepares to vote on a resolution to reaffirm its sanctuary status. If passed, the resolution would allocate taxpayer funds to provide legal services to undocumented immigrants and establish a commitment from the police department to not cooperate with ICE in detaining illegal migrants.

In 2022, the Brazilian individual entered the United States via El Paso, Texas. Although facing drug trafficking charges in their home country, they were still released into the country.

According to Patricia H. Hyde, the acting Field Office Director of ERO Boston, this individual, who is not a citizen, is facing serious charges in Brazil. Hyde emphasized that the main focus of ERO Boston is public safety, and their officers are dedicated to removing noncitizens who pose a potential threat from our communities.

In January, he received an order for deportation, which was followed by an unsuccessful appeal. Then, in June, a federal immigration judge issued a final order for his removal.

In Massachusetts, authorities have apprehended a Dominican national who unlawfully entered the United States in July 2021. Belardis Tapia Gonzalez, accused of child molestation/sexual assault in Rhode Island, was taken into custody on Monday in Lynn, a city near Boston.

A Salvadoran MS-13 gang member, who entered the U.S. as a gotaway, has been found guilty of assault in the state. Despite ICE placing a detainer on him with Northampton District Court, he was released into the community without any notification sent to federal immigration authorities.

Former President Donald Trump has officially declared his endorsement for a significant measure aimed at expediting the deportation of immigrants in order to counter what he refers to as the “Biden invasion.” Trump has expressed his support for this move, emphasizing the need to reverse the influx of migrants into the United States.

State Democrats Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu have faced significant backlash for their stance against President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to carry out widespread deportations of undocumented immigrants after he takes office in January.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has made a firm commitment to protect the residents of her state by vowing that the Massachusetts State Police will not cooperate with the anticipated mass deportation effort initiated by the incoming Trump administration. Healey has assured the public that she will utilize every available resource to fulfill this promise.

Healey’s declaration comes as a response to the concerns raised by many citizens residing in the blue state. By refusing to cooperate with the deportation efforts, she aims to provide support and reassurance to those who may be affected by the proposed policies.

In emphasizing her stance, Healey has stated that she will employ all possible means to safeguard the rights and well-being of Massachusetts residents. She firmly believes that her state police force should not partake in any activities that may contribute to an unjust mass deportation effort.

As the Massachusetts State Police take a stand against cooperating with the Trump administration’s mass deportation initiative, it remains to be seen how this will impact the overall approach to immigration enforcement in the state. However, Healey’s commitment to protecting the rights and safety of her constituents is clear.

In a statement provided to Fox News Digital on Thursday, Healey’s office expressed the belief that individuals who commit violent crimes, such as those alleged in this case, should be deported as part of immigration enforcement.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu have made it clear that they will not cooperate with President-elect Trump’s immigration enforcement initiatives once he assumes office in January.

During an interview on Sunday, Wu expressed her opposition to Trump’s policies, stating that her city will not cooperate with the incoming administration’s mass deportation operation. She highlighted the issue of illegal immigrants with criminal charges being released back onto the streets and emphasized that her city will not be a part of such actions.

On Thursday, the MassGOP criticized Healey and Wu for prioritizing politics over public safety in light of the arrests of criminal undocumented immigrants.

MassGOP chairwoman, Amy Carnevale, expressed her strong disapproval of the Governor of Massachusetts and the Mayor of Boston’s actions in prioritizing the appeasement of their political base over the safety of Massachusetts residents.

In a news release, Carnevale stated, “It’s appalling and disgusting that individuals charged with such serious crimes are allowed to roam free because local authorities refuse to work with ICE to remove these criminals from our streets.” Carnevale further emphasized the concern of parents across the Commonwealth who are horrified by this situation.
