He has been offered a new position as the co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). His role will involve enhancing the efficiency of government operations and minimizing bureaucracy.
The US government has established an advisory group to tackle unnecessary spending and improve the overall efficiency of its operations. Dubbed as the “department,” this initiative aims to identify potential areas for significant savings within the massive federal budget of over US$6 trillion.
Musk’s appointment, much like many of his involvements, has stirred up controversy. As the richest man in the world, he has expressed his intention to reduce spending by a staggering US$2 trillion (£1.6 trillion). Furthermore, he has even proposed the creation of a “leaderboard for most absurdly wasteful use of taxpayer money.”
There are concerns regarding the potential impact he may have on public services. Moreover, some individuals are apprehensive that he might exploit his position to further his personal business endeavors.
Elon Musk has an impressive track record when it comes to leading major organizations. The governance of Doge will be subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act, ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards. Additionally, any decisions made regarding Doge will ultimately be under the purview of Congress.
