Police fatally shoot man who was lighting fireworks in his backyard in Downey

The police in Downey shot and killed a man on Saturday who was setting off fireworks in his backyard.

According to a statement from the Downey Police Department, they received reports of a disturbance in the area and were then called to the 7100 block of Stewart and Gray Road, near Pernell Avenue, at approximately 6:15 p.m.

According to a statement, the officers who arrived on the scene were involved in a shooting incident during their investigation. The statement also revealed that a male individual was shot and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the commotion started when one of the neighbors, who is believed to be suffering from mental health issues, was setting off fireworks in his backyard. The situation escalated when he got into a heated argument with another nearby resident.

It is still uncertain what exactly happened before the shooting took place.

The investigation of the incident where an unarmed man was killed will be conducted by the California Department of Justice. There were no other reported injuries.
