Virginia Beach Resident Dies in Currituck Crash, Injures Another

Virginia Beach man killed, another seriously injured in Currituck crash

On Monday, July 1 at around 3 p.m., an SUV carrying two Virginia Beach residents veered across the center lane and turn lane on 158 in Currituck County near Shortcut Road. The SUV then collided with a van in a sideswipe motion before hitting a Dominion Power truck. Sadly, one of the residents passed away while the other is currently in critical condition.

Larry Edwin Walters, 87, who was a passenger in the SUV, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, as per the report from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. On the other hand, Richard Mayes, 69, who was driving the vehicle and is from Virginia Beach, is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at Sentara Hospital.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the Dominion Truck and the two individuals in the van, which was sideswiped, did not sustain any major injuries.
