Illinois State Police report 7-year-old boy wounded in shooting while traveling in a car on Dan Ryan Expressway.

Early Sunday morning, a 7-year-old boy was shot while riding in an SUV that was towing a U-Haul trailer on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago.

Illinois State Police have reported that the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan located at 73rd Street were closed for an hour during the investigation of the shooting incident. However, they were reopened before 5 a.m.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) reported that they received a distressing call regarding a shooting incident at around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. The location of the incident was on the northbound Dan Ryan at 73rd Street. As per the preliminary report, a vehicle carrying the victim was heading north on the expressway when suddenly an unidentified vehicle opened fire, injuring a 7-year-old boy who was in the passenger seat.

According to the ISP, the victim’s vehicle driver pulled over at East 22nd Street and South Michigan Avenue on the Near South Side to seek assistance after the incident. The 7-year-old who was injured was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Additionally, officers were observed escorting two adults and two other children to a police vehicle.

At present, there is no news regarding the condition of the 7-year-old victim or any arrests made in connection to the shooting. The police are still conducting their investigation into the matter.
