A Milwaukee teenager was recently gifted with $750 worth of gift cards from Kohl’s, resulting in the shopping trip of a lifetime. Loren Muwonge, who went from almost failing to graduating with a remarkable 4.0 GPA, believes that while her story is one of triumph, it is not one that should be considered rare.
Muwonge has been honored with the title of Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
According to Andre Douglas from the Boys and Girls Club, Muwonge exemplifies what is great about Milwaukee.
Muwonge is well-regarded by those who know her, with many optimistic about her future prospects.
According to Douglas, “Her future holds whatever she wants it to.”
According to Muwonge, it hasn’t been a smooth ride all along.
Muwonge shared that his mother had passed away a little over a year ago and he was left feeling lost. He had to take a month off from school, and during that time, he was unsure of where he would go and how he would graduate on time. However, after speaking with his counselors, he felt like he was given the much-needed sense of direction that he was seeking.
The Boys and Girls Club, in collaboration with Kohl’s, celebrated her achievement as she secured a full ride to Spelman College after a year of struggles.
Muwonge expressed her gratitude, stating that being able to be present without the added stress of worrying about dorm supplies holds a significant meaning for her.
The presence of those around her has given Muwonge hope for her future.
Muwonge expressed gratitude for her journey, stating, “A year ago, I had no direction, but now I have inspired others with my story and am on my way to my dream school.”
She wishes that others will also have the same hope.
Muwonge expressed her excitement about building a legacy for young girls who share her appearance. She believes that it is possible to attend a place that nurtures black excellence, and she wants to inspire others to do the same.
