FDA recalls millions of eggs and issues a significant warning due to outbreak

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I recall on millions of eggs, cautioning American consumers about the potential for “serious adverse health consequences or death.”

In September, the FDA notified the public about the egg recall initiated by Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC, an Amish-owned farm located in Bonduel, Wisconsin. This recall encompassed all eggs from “Milo’s Poultry Farms” and “Tony’s Fresh Market” due to an outbreak of salmonella bacteria.

The FDA has recently confirmed to Fox Business that the egg recall has been upgraded to Class I status on Monday. According to the FDA’s website, Class I recalls are defined as situations where there is a high likelihood that the use or exposure to a non-compliant product can lead to severe adverse health effects or even death.

The FDA’s website states that over four million eggs are impacted by the current egg recall, specifically 345,417 dozen cartons. The FDA has issued a warning, explaining that the recall was necessary due to the potential contamination of the eggs with Salmonella.

According to Fox Business, restaurants and stores in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin sold eggs from “Milo’s Poultry Farms” and “Tony’s Fresh Market” during the summer. The salmonella outbreak caused illness in 65 people, with 24 of them requiring hospitalization. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

The FDA issued a warning in September, stating that individuals who are infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea (possibly with blood), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream, leading to more severe conditions like arterial infections, infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis.

In September, the FDA found that Milo’s Poultry Farms and Tony’s Fresh Market eggs tested positive for salmonella, leading to their recall.
