President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden expressed their heartfelt condolences to those impacted by Hurricane Helene in a video message on Monday. They empathetically stated, “We share in your grief, and want you to know that the entire nation stands by your side.”

The Bidens expressed that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was actively assisting individuals in need across multiple states.

“FEMA is actively going door-to-door to enroll survivors for instant and direct financial assistance, as many of them require urgent support,” stated the president. “I have instructed my team to remain by your side around the clock until this mission is accomplished.”

Last week, a powerful Category 4 hurricane wreaked havoc in Florida, causing extensive damage and loss of life. According to The Associated Press, the storm claimed the lives of approximately 230 individuals, with numerous others still missing and unaccounted for.

The storm, which caused the most fatalities on the mainland since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, swept through several states including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama.

In a video on Monday, President Biden highlighted the efforts of his administration in providing substantial federal aid to the most severely affected areas. He mentioned that thousands of individuals were dispatched to the southeastern states to assist with the recovery process.
