President Biden held a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday to discuss the United States’ unwavering support in Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. During the call, President Biden announced a significant boost in military aid with a new package totaling $425 million.
In a joint statement, President Zelenskyy informed President Biden about his strategy to secure victory over Russia. Both leaders have instructed their teams to engage in further consultations to determine the next steps.
After Congress failed to address his request for an extension on the use of the funds, the president was compelled to announce the all-encompassing multibillion-dollar aid package.
The White House has announced that in the upcoming months, Ukraine will receive a variety of new capabilities from the United States. These include a large number of air defense interceptors, tactical air defense systems, artillery systems, ammunition, armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored vehicles. All of these resources will play a crucial role in strengthening Ukraine’s armed forces.
The call coincides with Biden’s upcoming trip to Germany on Thursday. The visit to Europe had to be rescheduled due to the impact of Hurricane Milton in the U.S. Unfortunately, the president’s cancellation of travel resulted in the postponement of the Ramstein group’s leader-level meeting. This consortium, consisting of over 50 nations, is responsible for providing military assistance to Ukraine.
During their conversation, Biden assured Zelensky that he would organize a virtual meeting in November for the Ramstein group, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. This meeting will bring together leaders from various countries to discuss and coordinate further assistance for Ukraine.
