Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) prefers to refrain from uttering the name of former President Trump.
During a recent podcast interview, the California representative remarked that mentioning Trump is akin to using swear words. In a lighthearted manner, she playfully expressed her hope of not facing any consequences for her choice of words, quipping about potentially “burning in hell” for the profanity used.
During the interview with The Guardian’s Jonathan Freedland and other journalists, Pelosi casually referred to Trump as “what’s-his-name.”
“I rarely mention his name,” she expressed with a sense of disdain. “To me, it’s an utterly repulsive word.”
Freedland asked Pelosi to confirm if she was referring to Donald Trump, and she confirmed that she was.
“I was raised Catholic, and I still practice the faith. The fear of eternal damnation for uttering a profanity without the chance to confess has always stayed with me. That’s why I’m not willing to take any risks,” she explained.
During the interview, she later contradicted her own rule and mentioned the name of the GOP presidential nominee.
Pelosi emphasized that democracy being on the ballot is not just a women’s issue, but an issue that affects everyone. She pointed out that when we discuss freedom of speech, it becomes evident that Trump’s actions are concerning.
Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker emerita, has always been a staunch critic of Trump. She played a significant role in the effort to remove President Biden from the Democratic ticket after his disastrous debate performance against Trump in June. Pelosi has shown strong support for Vice President Harris, attending numerous campaign events with her in California.
