Eight years ago to the day, my wife and I embarked on a journey to South Carolina. It was a different time, a time when I lived in a state of blissful ignorance, disregarding all the warnings and oblivious to the impending attack.
Throughout the journey across rural Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and ultimately South Carolina, countless signs served as a constant reminder of the approaching storm.
Yards, highways, and strip malls were scattered with them. They could be found in front of buildings and along byways. The eye-catching blue, white, and red signs were proudly displayed in a row, inviting people to gaze at them without hesitation.
The continuous chant of “Trump/Pence” reverberates throughout the crowd, energizing and uniting supporters. It is a rallying cry that encapsulates the unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm that Trump and Pence evoke in their followers.
The repetition of their names creates a sense of solidarity and unity, reinforcing the bond between the leaders and their supporters. It is a powerful mantra that echoes through the air, a testament to the fervor and passion that defines their political movement.
The American economy had finally recovered from the devastating crash it experienced eight years ago. Moreover, the United Kingdom’s decision to vote for Brexit was seen as incredibly foolish, counterproductive, and driven by racist sentiments.
Seriously, what kind of country would be foolish enough to vote against its own interests…? None.
The world was rocked by the devastating explosion that occurred on the evening of November 8, 2016, leaving me in a state of despair. The following day, in the solitude of my den at four in the morning,
I found myself seeking solace by consuming alcohol from a bottle that was once a source of celebration but had now transformed into a remedy for my anguish. I reached out to my daughters, managing to connect with my youngest, and expressed my sincerest apologies, admitting, “I truly never believed we were capable of this…”
I bet you have your own story to tell. Always remember …
For the past 28 days, I have been strolling along the breezy Outer Banks of North Carolina, tirelessly advocating for an exceptional woman who possesses the qualities needed to shatter the glass ceiling and emerge as the ultimate victor.
I want to emphasize once more that the alternative is simply unimaginable. However, this time, my words carry a sense of urgency that even unsettles me when I delve into the thought of it – and I find myself pondering it constantly.
Donald Trump, according to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is the most dangerous man in America. Surprisingly, this revelation is not receiving the attention it deserves from those who should be well aware of the risks involved.
However, there are signs of hope that indicate positive changes are on the horizon.
North Carolina is a classic battleground state, where every small factor could have a significant impact. The upcoming governor’s race is crucial, and surprisingly, the controversial Republican candidate Mark Robinson might actually be a liability for former President Trump, who has openly supported Robinson despite his divisive rhetoric and negative demeanor.
It seems that Robinson is only causing harm to the already terrible Trump. Leaving the state as early voting commenced, I was filled with a sense of optimism that had accompanied my arrival. I couldn’t help but wonder, if not this year, then when would North Carolina experience the change it so desperately needed?
Carolinians in unprecedented numbers are showing positive signs of increased voter turnout. Experts in the state are focusing their attention on Mecklenburg County, the residence of Charlotte, as a pivotal location where Democrats have the potential to gain numerous new voters.
A striking example of this is the fact that less than 19 percent of registered voters in Mecklenburg County participated in the primary elections held in March 2024, while the statewide voter turnout was 24 percent. This significant discrepancy has been a recurring pattern in recent elections.
Voters in Charlotte faced long lines on Thursday, as Clayton and her team have taken steps to ensure that there are paid workers on the ground in the city for the first time ever. Their goal is to continue mobilizing the Democratic base and encourage strong voter turnout.
Voters living in close proximity to the front lines of this epic battle between good and evil possess unique superpowers. They wield a level of influence that many of us do not possess.
If you happen to have some spare change in your pockets or some free time on your hands, consider supporting the hard-working Democrats in Mecklenburg County. Your contribution can make a significant impact.
As I venture away from the Atlantic Coast, I find myself heading north/northwest, with my attention focused on the road ahead, yet ever watchful for any signs that may guide me.
Eight years ago, I embarked on a journey that has transformed me into a different person today. I have become wearier and less trusting. I now have a deeper understanding of what my country is capable of, both the positive aspects, like the determination to conquer the beach and defeat the Nazis irrespective of the cost, and the negative aspects, such as the unfortunate reality of some individuals resorting to extreme measures like eating dogs and cats.
We have the ability to accomplish anything, but once again, I have made the choice to have optimistic expectations. While I acknowledge the existence of the worst possible outcomes, I refuse to be afraid of them. There are much more important and productive things to focus on during the limited time we have before the election.
Barack Obama will visit my town on Tuesday, alongside Tim Walz, the man chosen by Kamala Harris to be her Vice President. I am excited to be there with full enthusiasm.
In Madison, Wisconsin, I will stand alongside thousands of individuals who, like me, have dedicated the past eight years to rising up to the challenges of our time.
We have dedicated countless hours of hard work to replace Scott Walker, a Republican governor, with Tony Evers, a popular Democratic governor who has served two terms.
Our efforts have also paid off in several major elections, resulting in a shift from a hard Right State Supreme Court to a more balanced and progressive one.
Additionally, we have successfully eliminated the most gerrymandered maps in the country, replacing them with fair maps that prioritize the selection of the most qualified candidates, regardless of their political affiliation.
We have defeated the traitor, Trump, and we will certainly do so again.
