In the early hours of October 19, Kiara Crislayne de Moura dos Santos, an eight-month-old baby, was pronounced dead by medical professionals. Shortly after, Aureo Arruda Ramos, a funeral director, arrived at the Faustino Riscarolli Hospital Foundation in Correia Pinto, Santa Catarina, Brazil, to collect her body.
After Kiara’s parents arrived, they immediately started organizing the arrangements for their beloved daughter’s funeral, as reported by local media. They brought a set of clothes for Kiara to wear in her coffin, and the service commenced at 7pm, a mere 16 hours after her passing.
When the paramedics examined Kiara, they discovered that she had a pulse and an oxygen saturation level of 84 percent. This indicates that she requires immediate critical care. Additionally, they observed that there was no sign of rigor mortis, which typically occurs between six and eight hours after death and causes the body to stiffen.
Kiara’s heartbreaking story took a tragic turn when she was rushed back to the hospital, only to have her heart stop once again. Despite a glimmer of hope, the devastating news of her passing shattered her father, Cristiano Santos.
He expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “We were already devastated, and then there was a small ray of hope, but unfortunately, this is how it all ended up.”
The hospital is currently under investigation by Brazil’s specialist Scientific Police after admitting to initially declaring the child dead 16 hours earlier, only to confirm the death again when the child was brought back.
Following this incident, Correia Pinto City Hall issued an apology to Kiara’s family and assured them of a thorough investigation, with a detailed report to be provided within 30 days.
