Millions of people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will see their next payment of up to $943 arrive in just 13 days. SSI payments are scheduled to be distributed on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, as Dec. 1 falls on a Sunday, and payments are not processed on weekends or holidays.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides SSI payments to individuals with disabilities that severely limit their ability to work and perform everyday tasks. To qualify, applicants must have a physical or mental condition that either prevents them from functioning for at least a year or is expected to result in death.
For individual recipients, SSI payments can go up to $943 per month. Couples filing jointly may receive as much as $1,415, while “essential persons” who provide care to SSI recipients are eligible for up to $472. Due to inflation, these payment amounts have increased by 3.2% compared to last year.
It’s important to note that SSI disability payments are distinct from regular Social Security benefits. People who receive Social Security payments do not automatically qualify for SSI, and those eligible for SSI may not receive regular Social Security benefits. Beneficiaries can use the SSA’s online calculator to help determine their total SSI payment.
