A recent poll reveals that a majority of Americans support President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal to declare a national emergency over the ongoing border crisis.
This declaration would grant Trump the authority to deploy military resources to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and assist in the mass deportation of violent foreign nationals illegally residing in the country.
The Napolitan News Service survey, conducted online between November 18-19 by pollster Scott Rasmussen, gathered responses from 1,000 registered voters. The question posed was: “President Trump has said that he will declare a national emergency because of the illegal immigration problem.
This would let the Trump Administration use military force to help with a mass deportation of illegal immigrants. Do you favor or oppose declaring a national emergency to address the problem of illegal immigration?”
The results showed that 31% of respondents strongly favored the plan, while 24% somewhat favored it, giving a combined total of 55% in support. Among those in favor, 62% of Hispanic voters, 57% of white voters, and 50% of Black voters expressed support for the emergency declaration.
On the opposition side, 12% of participants somewhat opposed the idea, while 26% strongly opposed it, resulting in 38% total opposition. Additionally, 7% of those polled were unsure about their stance.
The poll highlights the growing concern over the border crisis, which became a focal point of Trump’s campaign. The former president promised to close the border and curb illegal immigration, a problem he argues intensified during the Biden-Harris administration.
