The spotlight has now shifted to Angel Reese of the WNBA, as she recently had a run-in with the league’s referees. This comes just a few days after her teammate, Chennedy Carter, made headlines for her flagrant foul against Caitlin Clark.
During Tuesday’s game against the Liberty, Reese was ejected late in the fourth quarter after receiving a double technical for apparently confronting one of the officials. The final score of the game was 88-75 in favor of the Liberty.
Reese’s fifth personal foul was called with only 2:31 remaining in the game. She had gone for a defensive rebound after Sabrina Ionescu’s missed 3-pointer, but it seemed like she exchanged some words with umpire Charles Watson while waving her hands.

While heading toward the key, Reese blew his whistle and issued the two technicals, resulting in her being booted from the game.
According to ESPN, Maj Forsberg, the official, stated that the reason for the technical fouls and the subsequent ejection was due to disrespectful behavior towards Watson, including waving a hand in dismissal.
During the game, the rookie from LSU achieved her second double-double in the WNBA and equaled her career-high score of 13 points. Unfortunately, she was ejected later in the game. The outstanding performance included 10 rebounds, showcasing her talent and potential in the league.
In response, Reese sent a touching message that read, “I appreciate you, gang!” accompanied by heart and crying emojis.
According to ESPN’s coverage of the game, Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon expressed her frustration with the lack of explanation she received, stating, “I tried to get an explanation, but I did not. I don’t know what has happened up until this moment.”
During the early stages of this WNBA season, Reese was involved in an incident that resulted in her ejection for the second time. However, it is noteworthy that the first time she was on the receiving end of the incident.
Alyssa Thompson from the Sun gave her a hard tackle on May 25, resulting in her being thrown out of the game.
During a recent interview on CNN, Bob Costas expressed his opinion that the controversial play involving Kevin Pillar was not receiving as much attention as the foul committed by Chris Carter on Max Scherzer. Costas suggested that race may be a factor in the discrepancy in coverage.
During a recent incident, Alyssa Thomas, who is African-American, grabbed Angel Reese by the throat and threw her to the floor resulting in a Flagrant 2 and her ejection from the game. Bob Costas pointed out that this incident didn’t spark as much conversation as it should have, not only because Caitlin Clark is a bigger star than Alyssa Thomas, but also because it was a black-on-black incident.
“People cannot comment on such a dynamic and exaggerate the story altogether.”
