Dangerous winds and quarter-size hail are possible in parts of Alabama

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has canceled the Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued at 747 PM CDT on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

The warning was for West central Tuscaloosa County and East central Pickens County in west central Alabama, until 845 PM CDT.

A severe thunderstorm was located over Carrollton, moving east at 15 mph, with a hazard of 60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. The source was radar indicated, and hail damage to vehicles was expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted included Gordo, Carrollton, Johnston Lake, Owens, Kirk, Dillburg, Pioneer, Buhl, Romulus, and Elrod.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect until 1 a.m. has been canceled for the following counties in Alabama: Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

There is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms later today in a significant part of Alabama, including the Townsquare Media Coverage Area that comprises Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has stated that strong to severe storms may occur due to the favorable environmental conditions.

Alabama, also known as the Yellowhammer State, is currently experiencing varying levels of risk and thunderstorms. The northwest region, in particular, has been designated by the National Weather Service in Birmingham as having a slight risk.

There is a marginal risk of Bibb experiencing unfavorable weather conditions.

Fayette is currently under a slight risk according to the latest reports.

According to the latest weather report, Greene is currently under a marginal risk.

Hale is currently under a marginal risk for potential hazards.

Lamar is currently under a slight risk according to the latest reports.

Perry is currently under a marginal risk.

There is a slight risk in Pickens.

Sumter is currently under a marginal risk for potential hazards.

The county of Tuscaloosa is divided into two categories of risk, namely slight and marginal.

According to the latest weather report, Walker is currently under a marginal risk.

Severe weather poses a significant threat that will commence on Sunday at 5 p.m. and continue until midnight. The coverage area of Townsquare Media will be affected between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Bibb area is available for visitation during the hours of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fayette is the designated time for the event.

During the hours of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Greene will be available.

The best time to visit Hale is between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The ideal time to visit Lamar would be between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Perry is available from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The town of Pickens is bustling between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sumter experienced a certain event or situation.

From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuscaloosa will be bustling with activity.

The ideal time frame for taking a walk is between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Potential Threats

Prepare for winds with speeds of up to 60 mph and hail that is about a quarter in size, as this may cause damage to the property and surroundings.
